EB.203: PROGRAM (11 days/10 nights - Safari in Kenya)
Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi
Official welcome to Kenya!
Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be greeted by our representatives once finalized with immigration. Please look for the board he will be holding. Afterwards, you will be transferred to your hotel in the city for check-in.
Kenya's capital has gone from an uninhabited salt marsh to a thriving modern capital in just one century. Modern Nairobi is still the safari capital of Africa, but the modern world has quickly caught up with the city. No longer a border city, Nairobi is one of Africa's largest and most interesting cities.
The rest of the day is spent at leisure with an overnight stay in a hotel in Nairobi.
Dinner on this day will be payable directly.
Day 2: Full day at leisure in Nairobi
Breakfast will be served at the hotel.
At the agreed time (possibly 08:00) you will be welcomed by our guide and set off on your full-day excursion to the beautiful Karen area.
Start with a public hour visit to the Daphne Sheldrick Wildlife Trust at 11am - 12pm (please note this visit is subject to availability at the time of booking)
The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant Orphanage is a small charity, founded in 1977 by Dr Daphne Sheldrick to honor the memory of her husband, the famous naturalist David Sheldrick, the founder of Tsavo East National Park in Kenya. For over 25 years Kenyan-born Daphne lived and worked alongside her late husband and during that time she raised and rehabilitated misfortune orphans from many different wildlife species, including elephants aged two and up.
You will then visit the Giraffe Center which offers the unique experience of feeding these gentle giants at eye level
From a raised platform, watching the warthogs below sniff for tidbits.
Our guide will then recommend a hotel where you can have lunch – Payable directly.
Then visit the Karen Blixen Museum which offers a glimpse of typical colonial life in Kenya. The house was once the centerpiece of a farm owned by Danish author Karen and her Swedish husband, Baron Bror von Blixen. The museum gained international fame with the release of the Oscar-winning film “Out of Africa,” based on Karen's life.
After your excursions, you will be transferred to your hotel. Dinner will be organized independently in the Hotel
Day 3: Nairobi – Samburu Game Reserve
Breakfast will be served at the hotel in your city. After breakfast you will continue to Samburu Game Reserve arriving at your camp in time for lunch.
The Samburu Game Reserve is located in the land of the colorful Samburu people, close cousins to the Maasai. Scenically and dramatically wildlife-wise, for much of the year Samburu is safe under the indifferent equatorial sun. This arid desert is a place where the waters of the Ewaso N'giro attract a profusion of game. This beautiful area is known for its large herds of elephants and elusive leopards, as well as northern endemic species including the Somali gerenuk ostrich, Beisa oryx and reticulated giraffe.
First afternoon safari before returning to the camp in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.
Camp Ashnil Samburu (meal: breakfast, lunch and dinner)
Day 4: Samburu Game Reserve
Another day at Samburu Game Reserve.
Your driver will plan your days with you, which can be as active or leisurely as you wish. You can decide to spend the whole day in the reserve with a packed lunch or enjoy a morning game drive and return to camp for a pleasant lunch and time to relax before heading out again to spot animals in the cooler hours of the afternoon.
The Samburu people are among the friendliest in Kenya. Originally a nomadic tribe, the Samburu still embrace their nomadic culture today. They live north of the equator in the geographically fascinating county of Samburu in northern Kenya and are closely related to the Maasai tribe who speak a similar language, derived from Maa. Evening return to your camp for dinner and overnight stay.
Camp Ashnil Samburu (meal: breakfast, lunch and dinner)
Day 5: Samburu Game Reserve – Lake Nakuru National Park
After breakfast you will continue towards Lake Nakuru National Park arriving at your camp in time for lunch. After lunch there is time to relax before setting off for an afternoon game drive in the park.
Lake Nakuru National Park is best known for its migrating flamingos and its large flocks of pelicans, however, recently rising lake water levels have reduced the salinity of the water in the lake thus reducing algae, main food for flamingos. When this happens, migrating flamingos move into Lake Bogoria. There are over 450 species of birds in the lake and a thriving population of mammals including buffalo, baboons, impala, Rothschild giraffes, bushbacks and waterbucks. A rhino sanctuary has been established to protect this highly endangered species. The park surrounding the lake features acacia and euphorbia forests, as well as areas of meadows and rocky cliffs.
Later in the evening you will return to your camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 6: Lake Nakuru National Park – Masai Mara Game Reserve
Enjoy your last morning game drive at Lake Nakuru National Park. Breakfast will be served at your Lodge.
Today you will continue to the Masai Mara Game Reserve arriving at your camp in time for lunch. You will have free time at camp enjoying camp activities
This afternoon you will visit the traditional Maasai Manyatta for a cultural experience.
(There is no game drive for this day as it is not worth paying that much park fee for just a few hours, tomorrow we will be doing a full day game drive, however if you still wish to do this short game drive we will invoice you on today
$100 per person January through June extra
$200 per person from July to October extra, not the Masai Mara Park fee has been changed to 12 hours per day from the previous 24 hours)
Return to the camp later in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.
Dinner will be served followed by overnight stay. (Mara Maisha camp meal plan: breakfast, lunch and dinner)
Day 7: Masai Mara Game Reserve
The day will be dedicated to wildlife observation in Kenya's best wildlife park, the Masai Mara National Reserve, in search of Africa's Big Five and the plethora of other wildlife that populate this vast Kenyan game reserve.
On clear days, the Masai Mara offers fantastic orange-tinged sunsets that are worth capturing on camera. The Masai Mara Game Reserve offers incredible open landscapes and fertile riverine forests that follow the meandering Mara and Talek Rivers in Kenya. One look is enough to explain its charm; it's classic open savannah, with masses of extraordinary wildlife. Everywhere you go in the vast Masai Mara you will see an abundance of wildlife such as Masai giraffes, baboons, warthogs, bat-eared foxes, gray jackals, spotted hyenas, topis, impalas, hartebeest and wildebeest. Elephants, buffaloes, zebras and hippos are also found in large numbers. It is also common to see lions basking after a heavy meal or scanning the wild plains for their next meal. Cheetahs and leopards are harder to spot but reasonably common. The biggest action here is, without a doubt, the annual wildebeest exodus, the Great Migration, which occurs in July and August, when millions of these grass-eaters move north from the Serengeti in search of lusher grass before heading south again in October.
Hot air balloon trips are an absolutely exceptional way to see the savannah plains teeming with wildlife. These hot air balloon trips in the Masai Mara can be arranged at an additional cost.
Campo Mara Maisha (meal: breakfast, lunch and dinner)
Day 8: Masai Mara Game Reserve – Lake Naivasha
Last morning game drive in this fantastic reserve.
Return to camp and enjoy a leisurely breakfast, then check out at a time agreed with your guide. You will then continue towards Lake Naivasha.
The lake is an important horticultural area in Kenya. Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake in Kenya, outside the town of Naivasha in Nakuru County, which is located northwest of Nairobi. It is part of the Great Rift Valley. The name comes from the local Maasai name Nai'posha, meaning "rough water" due to the sudden thunderstorms that can occur
Lunch will be served and the afternoon will be available to enjoy the hotel premises. Afternoon at leisure by the lake. This afternoon you will take a boat ride on the lake.
The rest of the evening will be at your Resort
Day 9: Lake Naivasha – Amboseli National Park
After breakfast you will continue to Amboseli National Park via Nairobi arriving at your camp in time for lunch.
Amboseli National Park is located in southern Kenya. It is known for its large herds of elephants and views of the immense Mount Kilimanjaro, across the border from Tanzania. Observation Hill offers views of the summit and the park's plains and wetlands. The diverse fauna includes giraffes, zebras, cheetahs and hundreds of bird species. The western section is dominated by vast Lake Amboseli, which is dry outside of the rainy season.
In the afternoon you will continue for your first afternoon game drive in this magnificent park.
Evening return to camp for dinner and overnight stay.
Kibo Safari Camp (meal: breakfast, lunch and dinner)
Day 10: Full day in Amboseli National Park
Another day spent in Amboseli National Park.
Amboseli is often called the “Land of the Giants” because of the impressive elephants that bear enormous tusks here. The animals are set against the backdrop of breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro, which provides a fantastic backdrop to the small park. Aside from elephants, many plains animals are easy to spot. Fantastic photo opportunities are possible and the early morning hours are best for a clear view of Kilimanjaro. Amboseli offers great wildlife viewing and four of the Big Five are present. Rhinos are absent, but large herds of elephants reliably move to and from the swampy swamps at the center of the park. Buffalo, wildebeest, Burchell's zebra and gazelle are all very common. Lions are the easiest big cats to spot, but sightings are random.
All meals will be served at your camp. Kibo Safari Camp (meal: breakfast, lunch and dinner)
Day 11: Amboseli – Nairobi
This morning, enjoy a leisurely breakfast and then check out at the time agreed upon with your guide. You will then continue to Nairobi. The guide will recommend a good hotel where you can have lunch (payable directly).
